I hate my country’s government so much right now. It feels like we’re heading in the wrong direction, and I can’t see a way out. The more I think about it, the more I realize how right Polybius was when he wrote about the concept of Anacyclosis — the cycle of political systems. We’re somewhere between oligarchy and mob rule right now, and it’s only getting worse.

What we call democracy is really devolving into something closer to tyranny. I feel like we’re stuck in this never-ending loop. First comes the mob rule, then anarchy, then we end up with warlords, monarchy, aristocracy, and then back to oligarchy — over and over again. It’s a merry-go-round that keeps spinning, and it feels like there’s no escape.

I’m also so angry at my fellow citizens for allowing this to happen. They have no idea how badly they’ve been manipulated. It’s like they’ve been bamboozled into supporting this mess without ever questioning it. I keep thinking back to what Cicero said — “If you grab a man by his emotions, no amount of logic or reason will change his mind.”

And that’s exactly what’s happening. We’re being led by emotions, not reason, and it’s destroying us.
