It’s hard to ignore the weight of the world sometimes. I can’t help but think that, as we move forward into the future, both robots and men have the potential to be the reason for Earth’s downfall. It’s not that I think all men are bad; I do believe that there are good men out there, ones who are just as invested in creating a better world as we are. But when you look at the state of things, it’s clear that many of the ones in power are taking away rights—rights that belong to women, to marginalized communities, to queer people, and to people of color.
We live in a time when the balance of power feels more tilted than ever before, and not just in one country, but globally. Many powerful men are making decisions that have long-lasting effects on all of us, and often, it feels like those decisions are more about maintaining their hold on power than about making the world a better place for everyone.
Take Elon Musk, for example. Yes, he’s created incredible technological advancements, but there’s also this looming sense that as we continue to develop robots and artificial intelligence, we might be heading in a direction that causes even more harm to the environment, to humanity, and to the future generations who will have to live with the consequences. His work, and the work of others like him, seems to be more about profit and innovation at all costs, rather than being mindful of the long-term effects of these technologies.
It’s a scary thought, knowing that the very forces shaping our future could be coming from a place of greed, power, and a disregard for the well-being of the planet and its people. But it’s important to remember that while these forces may feel overwhelming, we are not powerless. We can stand together—women, queer people, people of color—and continue to fight for what’s right, for justice, for equality, and for a future where our voices are heard.
The fight for our rights, our safety, and our futures is far from over, but I believe it’s one we can win. Stay safe, stay strong, and keep fighting for what we deserve.
Take care of each other,
Sarah
