Looking back, I can confidently say that blocking my ex was one of the best decisions I ever made—second only to the one where I chose to stay away from them in the first place.
It’s strange how a person can affect you in ways that you don’t even realize until much later. Months after the breakup, I started seeing someone new, and my ex just couldn’t seem to handle it. They were furious. Honestly, I think that’s what still gets to me the most. The fact that they were mad that I moved on after they’d completely betrayed me. They cheated on me more than once and acted like it was nothing, like I should just forget about it because they “didn’t mean it” or some other nonsense. But the minute they heard I was dating someone else, they had the nerve to get upset.
The worst part was their little speech when we finally talked again. They told me I was never going to find anyone like them, that I was “better off with them,” and that I was going to be miserable without them. It’s almost laughable in hindsight. The misery I felt in that relationship was suffocating. I can’t even remember how many times I was humiliated, how many times I had to swallow my pride just to keep the peace. Yet somehow, they believed I’d never be happy again without them.
It was a bitter pill to swallow when I realized that the person I had invested so much time and energy into was now the very person who thought they had the right to dictate my future. But blocking them was my way of finally taking back control. No more late-night texts, no more pretending I didn’t see through their attempts to manipulate me. It was liberating.
I’m in a better place now. Not because I found someone new, but because I found peace within myself. I’m no longer haunted by the idea that I needed them or their validation. I know my worth now, and I’m not willing to let anyone diminish it again.
I look forward to a future where I’m in charge of my own happiness, not dependent on someone else’s words or actions to define me.
