Okay, let’s talk about TRON: Ares for a second. I’m a huge fan of the TRON franchise, and when I first heard about the new movie, I was excited. I mean, TRON: Legacy left us on this epic note, right? But then I saw the synopsis for Ares, and honestly, I’m not sure what I’m reading. This doesn’t even feel like a TRON movie at all.
“TRON: Ares follows a highly sophisticated Program, Ares, who is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, marking humankind’s first encounter with A.I. beings.” Like… what? First of all, who the hell sent him on this mission? Why would a Program be sent into the real world? This just doesn’t fit into the TRON universe, where the digital world and real world were always kept separate. It was always about the conflict between users and programs, between the Grid and our world—not some mission to take AI beings into the real world.
The whole point of TRON was this digital universe that was its own ecosystem, where programs lived and evolved, but the real world was off-limits. Now we’re talking about Ares being sent out of the Grid into the human world? That just feels… off. It’s like they’re trying to reimagine the whole premise, but instead of enhancing it, they’re shifting it into something that doesn’t really feel connected to the TRON legacy.
The original TRON movies had this distinct vibe—technology was the villain, the user was this powerful, mysterious figure, and the digital world felt like this almost untouchable, futuristic space. If Ares is some sophisticated AI and the focus shifts to him coming into our world, it just feels like they’re losing the essence of what made TRON stand out in the first place.
I don’t know… maybe they’re trying to evolve the story in a new direction, but at least give us some of the old magic. This feels more like a generic sci-fi flick, not a TRON movie.
