It’s been three years since I last saw my best friend, and I still don’t understand what happened. We were inseparable. We did everything together—school projects, hanging out on weekends, late-night talks about our future. She was my person, and I thought I was hers.
But one day, out of nowhere, everything changed. She ghosted me. I tried calling, texting, even showing up at her house, but she ignored me. I didn’t get it. We had a fight a few months prior over something silly, but nothing that would have caused this.
I tried to talk to her friends, but they all gave me the same excuse: “I don’t know what happened. Maybe you should just let it go.” But I couldn’t. I needed closure. I needed to know what I did wrong, why she shut me out.
Eventually, I found out the truth, but it wasn’t what I expected. Apparently, she’d been dealing with some personal issues that she hadn’t told anyone about. She was going through a tough time with her family and didn’t know how to reach out. She didn’t want to burden me with her problems, so she just cut me off instead.
I get it now. I understand why she did it, but it still hurts.
